Auto-dimming mirror, or self-dimming mirror, refers to an automotive mirror that controls or eliminates the glare caused by headlights of the tailing vehicles. It consists of electrochromic materials and sensors to absorb and reflect the light from the vehicles and reduce the glare by darkening the mirror. The sensors locate the bright source of light during night or in bad lighting conditions and generate an electric charge through a low voltage power supply inside the mirror. This electric charge travels through the materials and controls the dimming of inside and outside rear-view mirrors. The mirrors can also perform secondary functions of a compass, microphone and safety camera to enhance the safety of the driver in both commercial and passenger vehicles.
Significant growth in the automotive industry across the globe is one of the key factors creating a positive outlook for the market. Moreover, increasing awareness among the masses regarding driver and passenger safety is providing a thrust to the market growth. Auto-dimming mirrors assist the driver in maintaining a clear field of view of the road and prevent road accidents caused due to excessive glare at night. Additionally, various technological advancements, such as the development of auto-dimming mirrors integrated with the cloud and Internet of Things (IoT) systems, are acting as other growth-inducing factors. These innovative variants offer parking and lighting assistance, blind spot detection, hands-free and Bluetooth connectivity, navigation and temperature displays. Other factors, including the rising expenditure capacities of the consumers, along with the increasing preference for luxury and semi-luxury vehicles among the masses, are anticipated to drive the market toward growth.
