Liquid Carbon Dioxide Prices Outlook Q2 2025

  • USA: USD 766/MT
  • India: USD 320/MT
  • Germany: USD 220/MT
  • Japan: USD 277/MT
  • Brazil: USD 245/MT

During the second quarter of 2025, the liquid carbon dioxide prices in the USA reached 766 USD/MT in June. In the USA, liquid carbon dioxide prices in Q2 2025 were influenced by inconsistent ammonia production levels, which impacted CO₂ capture volumes at major facilities. The demand from the food processing, beverage, and refrigeration sectors remained strong, while scheduled plant turnarounds constrained supply. Elevated fuel and power costs also contributed to higher distribution expenses across regional supply chains.

During the second quarter of 2025, liquid carbon dioxide prices in India reached 320 USD/MT in June. In India, liquid carbon dioxide pricing was shaped by fluctuations in fertilizer plant output, which serves as a primary source of industrial CO₂. The beverage and cold storage sectors experienced heightened seasonal demand. Logistics inefficiencies, particularly in tanker availability and inter-state transport delays, further affected supply reliability. Power outages in certain industrial zones also disrupted gas compression and liquefaction operations.

During the second quarter of 2025, the liquid carbon dioxide prices in Germany reached 220 USD/MT in June. Liquid carbon dioxide prices in Germany were impacted by reduced availability from ammonia and ethanol plants undergoing maintenance and operating under energy-saving protocols. The food-grade segment, particularly in the meat processing and beverage industries, maintained stable demand. Elevated electricity costs and regulatory pressures surrounding emissions and carbon capture systems added to the operational burden across key production facilities.

During the second quarter of 2025, the liquid carbon dioxide prices in Japan reached 277 USD/MT in June. In Japan, liquid carbon dioxide pricing was influenced by constrained feedstock supply from chemical processing units operating at reduced loads due to high energy input costs. The demand from the electronics and food industries remained consistent, while stringent safety and purity standards added to production complexity. Import dependency increased in some regions, with shipping disruptions affecting supply timing and inventory control.

During the second quarter of 2025, the liquid carbon dioxide prices in Brazil reached 245 USD/MT in June. In Brazil, liquid carbon dioxide prices were affected by variable ethanol production, which directly influenced CO₂ recovery rates. Seasonal demand from the beverage and cold chain logistics sectors increased procurement needs. Domestic transportation delays, especially in south-eastern states, limited timely delivery of liquefied CO₂. Additionally, exchange rate volatility and maintenance at key bioethanol plants disrupted short-term supply continuity.

Liquid Carbon Dioxide Prices Outlook Q1 2025

  • USA: USD 783/MT
  • India: USD 330/MT
  • Germany: USD 214/MT
  • Japan: USD 267/MT

During the first quarter of 2025, the liquid carbon dioxide prices in the USA reached 783 USD/MT in March. The demand for liquid carbon dioxide from carbonated drink producers and marketers remained high. Beyond beverages, liquid CO2 is utilized in food packaging, industrial operations, and as a firefighting agent. Increased demand in these industries added to overall pricing pressure.

During the first quarter of 2025, the liquid carbon dioxide prices in India reached 330 USD/MT in March. As per the liquid carbon dioxide price chart, there were significant fluctuations in the market. Production of LCO2 heavily relies on natural gas as a primary feedstock. Hence, an unexpected surge in natural gas prices across Asia, driven by heightened electricity demand and supply chain disruptions, directly elevated production costs. This situation was further exacerbated by limited storage capacities.

During the first quarter of 2025, the liquid carbon dioxide prices in Germany reached 214 USD/MT in March. Operational challenges, including maintenance shutdowns and logistical issues, affected the supply of liquid CO₂. These disruptions led to tighter supply in the market, further influencing the prices.

During the first quarter of 2025, the liquid carbon dioxide prices in Japan reached 267 USD/MT in March. Japan reported liquid carbon dioxide shortages when energy demand was at its peak. Besides, disruptions within the supply chain also contributed to the volatility in prices.

Europe Liquid Carbon Dioxide Price Trend

Q3 2025:

As per the liquid carbon dioxide pricing index in Europe, prices followed a downward trend, reflecting lower price levels observed in Germany. Demand from industrial manufacturing, metal processing, and chemical applications softened across key consuming countries. Improved production availability and stable output from domestic suppliers reduced supply-side pressure. Cross-border trade within the region supported material movement, while buyers emphasized inventory control and deferred discretionary purchases.

Q2 2025:

European liquid carbon dioxide prices in Q2 2025 were influenced by reduced CO₂ recovery from ammonia and ethanol production facilities operating at lower capacity due to high energy costs and environmental compliance obligations. The demand from the food, beverage, and healthcare sectors remained stable. Limited storage infrastructure and cross-border transportation delays further strained supply availability across Western and Central Europe.

Q1 2025:

As per the liquid carbon dioxide price index, prices were influenced by cost of natural gas which is a primary feedstock for CO₂ production. In March, European natural gas prices surged, driven by supply constraints and increased demand. This escalation directly impacted CO₂ production costs, leading to higher prices for liquid CO₂. Besides, geopolitical tensions and logistical challenges affected the supply of CO₂. These disruptions, coupled with steady demand, contributed to price instability in the market.
