Zhejiang Kingsun Eco-Pacl Ltd., a manufacturer headquartered in China and known for its biodegradable paper tableware, is officially setting up its first production base in the United States. The company is investing $80.5 million to transform a long-vacant industrial site in Robbinsville, North Carolina, into a high-capacity manufacturing center.
The facility will operate in a former furniture plant that was vacated in 2020. Once operational, it is projected to generate up to 515 new jobs in the area, contributing a significant boost to the local economy.
Kingsun’s U.S. plant will manufacture its full catalog of eco-friendly disposable dishware, bowls, and plates. The company sources its materials from wood pulp and recycled cardboard — a supply chain choice that complements the Western North Carolina region's strong ties to wood-based industries.
In addition to manufacturing, the new site will include a showroom to display the product line to prospective buyers and partners.
Established in 2008, Kingsun currently runs 32 production lines across three Chinese regions. With an annual output of 75,000 tons of disposable paperware, the company is now positioning itself to meet growing demand in North America.
The decision to expand into the U.S. comes amid increased global attention on sustainable packaging solutions and localized supply chains.
The Robbinsville location, once a furniture factory, has remained empty for over a decade. Kingsun’s investment will bring the facility back to life and repurpose it for environmentally conscious production, aligning with broader regional economic development goals.
Local and state officials are expected to support the project through various incentive programs aimed at job creation and industrial revitalization.
