Regional Coverage

The report provides a detailed analysis of the market across different regions, each with unique pricing dynamics influenced by localized market conditions, supply chain intricacies, and geopolitical factors. This includes price trends, price forecast and supply and demand trends for each region, along with spot prices by major ports. The report also provides coverage of FOB and CIF prices, as well as the key factors influencing steel billet prices.

Europe Steel Billet Price Trend

Q3 2026:

The steel billet price index in Europe moved lower through the quarter, weighed down by subdued demand for long steel products across the region. Turkey, a key producing and exporting market, recorded softer values as downstream rebar rolling mills maintained only hand-to-mouth procurement of available material. Buyers across the region rely on a mix of domestic integrated mill output and imported parcels from Black Sea, North African and Asian origins, so weaker replacement costs and inbound freight fed into delivered values. Firm operating rates at regional basic oxygen furnace and electric arc furnace steelmaking units kept the volume of prompt material limited for buyers outside contract arrangements. Cautious demand from construction, infrastructure and mechanical engineering applications kept inquiry levels thin through the period. Logistics charges between Black Sea ports and inland distribution hubs added to landed costs for distributors.

Region Countries Covered
Europe Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Russia, Turkey, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Romania, Finland, Czech Republic, Portugal, and Greece, among other European countries.

North America Steel Billet Price Trend

Q3 2026:

The steel billet price index in North America moved lower during the quarter, shaped by softer downstream demand and steady electric arc furnace steelmaking activity across the region. The USA, the principal producing and consuming market, saw rebar fabricators and merchant rolling mills moderate active procurement of available volumes. Firm operating rates at domestic electric arc furnace meltshops kept the volume of prompt material limited for buyers placing immediate inquiries. Softer ferrous scrap settlement values lowered the replacement cost of stock held by traders and distributors serving the domestic market. Buyers across the region depend on a mix of local output and imported parcels, so freight and inland logistics charges added to delivered costs. Muted demand from construction, infrastructure and energy transmission projects weighed on underlying consumption.

Region Countries Covered
North America United States and Canada

Middle East and Africa Steel Billet Price Trend

Q3 2026:

The study includes steel billet price trends across the Middle East and Africa, taking into consideration variables that have a direct impact on market prices, such as regional industrial expansion, natural resource availability, and geopolitical conflicts.

Asia-Pacific Steel Billet Price Trend

Q3 2026:

The steel billet price index in Asia-Pacific moved lower through the quarter, amid softer downstream demand and cautious buying sentiment across the region. China, the dominant producing and consuming market, recorded easing values as rebar and wire rod producers moderated procurement and absorbed the volumes offered to the domestic market at subdued levels. India followed a similar pattern, with induction furnace re-rollers absorbing offered volumes at weaker inquiry levels through the period. Regional buyers depend on a mix of domestic steelmaking capacity and imported parcels, so replacement costs and inbound freight shaped landed values. Elevated output from basic oxygen furnace and induction furnace units across the region kept the volume of prompt material ample for buyers outside contract arrangements. Weaker export inquiries from overseas rolling mills and trading houses also reduced the draw on domestically available volumes.

Region Countries Covered
Asia-Pacific China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Hongkong, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, among other Asian countries.

Latin America Steel Billet Price Trend

Steel Billet Industry Analysis

The global steel billet market was valued at USD 143 Billion in 2025. By 2034, IMARC Group expects the market to reach USD 205 Billion, at a projected CAGR of 4.10% during 2026-2034. Market growth is being driven by sustained expansion of long steel consumption in residential and infrastructure construction, the steady build-out of electric arc furnace and induction furnace capacity across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa that relies on merchant billet as a flexible feedstock, and rising cross-border trade in semi-finished steel as rolling mills in import-dependent markets source casting volumes from integrated producers rather than investing in their own meltshops.

Latest News and Developments:

  • November 2025: Vaswani Industries Limited secured environmental approvals from the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board to raise billet making capacity at its Chhattisgarh steel mill in India to 105,000 Metric Tons per year from an installed base of 36,000 Metric Tons of MS billet.

Product Description

Steel billet is a semi-finished carbon steel product of square cross-section, continuously cast from liquid steel and supplied in straight lengths for reheating and rolling. Commercial grades span low-carbon, medium-carbon, high-carbon and micro-alloyed qualities, alongside rebar, wire rod and special bar quality casting grades distinguished by chemistry and internal soundness. At ambient conditions it appears as a solid, dark grey metallic bar with a mill-scale surface and no appreciable odor. It is dense, non-combustible, insoluble in water and susceptible to surface oxidation under humid storage. Principal users are long product rolling mills, rebar and wire rod producers, forging shops, seamless tube plants, fastener manufacturers and railway material suppliers. Rebar and wire rod rolling accounts for the largest share of consumption, forging grades serve automotive and machinery components, and special bar quality billets feed bearing, spring and engineering steel production. Billets are produced by melting ferrous scrap or iron-bearing charge in basic oxygen or electric arc furnaces, refining and degassing the melt, and casting it through continuous casting machines.
