It can also be commercially synthesized using reactive extrusion, enzyme-mediated synthesis, steam explosion and acid hydrolysis. It acts as a stability enhancer and auxiliary suspending agent. It is added to tablets, oral fluids, medicinal gels and chewable and mouth dissolving tablets and nutraceuticals for prolonged drug and nutrient release.
